The Past Is The Past

Ashcloud stared down at the water flowing swiftly past her paws, her eyes almost accusatory. Why weren't you there when my home was destroyed? she thought bitterly, Why was my family permitted to die while you flowed here so freely? Too far away to have been any good? But of course, as always, her anger subsided after a moment and she felt an overwhelming longing to swim. And so, rising lightly to her paws, she padded forward and slid into the water. Water proctected cats from fire, and so long as it exsisted she was sure she would be safe. She swam a few laps, but then pricked her ears at the sound of approaching paws and scrambled up onto the river bank to see who was there.

" Don't worry it's just me." Snowfur said.
"But with you swimming like that maybe I should send you over to Riverclan."
she teased.

Ashcloud purred in amusement, but then chose to explain herself. "When I was escaping the fire that destroyed my home, I became quite fond of the rivers I could find. I guess I never got over how safe it made me feel." She sighed as the statement brought back memories of her family and pushed them back forecfully. No need to dwell on the past. "What are you doing out here, anyway?" she asked to distract herself.
