Testing old Skills

Yet again, Doveheart wasnt out collecting herbs. This time, she was going back to the days when she lived in RiverClan, training to be a warrior. She still held her father's blood in her, and though most others wouldnt be, it made her kind of proud. So for the time being, she padded confidently across the bald landscape. Old instincts came back as she spotted a rabbit up ahead. Dropping into a hunters crouch, she silently came up on the prey. By the time it knew the medicine cat was there, she had pounced. The she-cat dragged her freshkill into a bush and presumed to eat.

[Birdsong]

Birdpaw was on another hunting trip by herself when she came across Doveheart by Barren Fields. What was the medicine cat doing out here? Collecting herbs, no doubt. Birdpaw was surprised, however, when Doveheart dropped into a hunting crouch and crept up on a rabbit. Birdpaw wathced keenly as the medicine cat pounced and killed her prey. She then began to eat it, and Birdpaw came out of her hiding spot to speak with her. "Hey, Doveheart. That was a great catch!"

Doveheart looked up from her meal to see Birdpaw complementing her kill.
"Thanks Birdpaw. You want some?" She asked, moving over for the apprentice.
The medicine cat breifly wondered why the young she-cat was out here without her mentor. Then agian, she wasnt one to judge how they ran things.
"What brings you out here?" She mewed.

[Birdsong]

"Batflight sent me on another hunting trip," Birdpaw replied, feeling her fur warm up slightly. She took a small bite of the rabbit, but then the overwhelming desire to come clean was drawn out of her under Doveheart's penetrating blue gaze. "Well, the truth is, Batflight didn't send me. I came out here to think."

Doveheart nodded slowly, taking another bite from the rabbit.
"Think about what?" She mewed after swallowing.
The medicine cat wondered if she could help with whatever Birdpaw was trying to sort out. Then again, she wasnt sure what apprentices thought about on a daily basis. While waiting for the young she-cat to give a reply, she finished off her part of the fresh-kill.

[Birdsong]

"Well..." Birdpaw mewed nervously. She hadn't told anyone about this, but she knew that telling someone would probably help. "It's... well, you see, it's..." she sighed dejectedly and nudged what was left of the rabbit with one outstretched claw. "It's Sprucepaw."

O StarClan, more love trouble? It seemed that everywhere Doveheart turned there was romance in the air. This was one of the times she enjoied the fact that there would be no tom trailing after her like this.
"Let me guess, it has something to do with liking one another?" She mewed, calm amusement in her expression.

[Birdsong]

Birdpaw blushed under her fur. "N-no," she mewed too quickly. "Well... sort of. Actually, it has more to do with his relationship with Wolfstar than with me. You see, it's obvious how much he dislikes his father, and I'm worried that he might become a little... extreme. What if he goes too far and Wolfstar exiles him? I know, I know," she sighed, "I sound like a worried elder. That's why I haven't told anyone else about this. I suppose I'm only worried because, like you said..." she trailed off, hoping Doveheart would understand that her feelings for Sprucepaw made her worry as she was.

[doveheart]

Doveheart purred soothingly.
"For one, I think you're too young to worry about relationships. Two, Wolfstar wouldnt exile his son just because they fight." She mewed
Yet the apprentice's words made sence, it was only a matter of time before Sprucepaw would challenge his father and leader like none have ever done before. She sighed quietly, wondering how this bad streak had even started.

[Birdsong]

Birdpaw nodded. "I know, I know," she mewed. "I guess I'm just..." she sighed. "Whatever. Anyway, thanks for listening Doveheart. I probably should be getting back to camp soon, or someone will notice that I've been missing. Or did you need help with collecting herbs or anything?"

Doveheart let off a mrow of laughter, shaking her head from side to side.
"Im not collecting herbs this time. Just making sure all my old training is still in tact." She mewed.
What most dont know about the medicine cat is that she sometimes missed the warrior life she used to live. So every now and then she would leave-which wasnt very suspisious-and go and do the things warriors do, hunt, check borders, etc. Her ice blue eyes turned back to Birdpaw,
"When you go back to camp, if anyone asks where you've been just tell them you were helping me." She said.

[Birdsong]

"All right, Doveheart," Birdpaw mewed, dipping her head respectfully to the medicine cat as she rose to her paws. I guess I'll see you later, then."
