Greenlily sat by the river, her heart and thoughts heavy. A cloud of depression had gathered over her, and though she tried she could not shake it away. Ever since Wolfstar had told her that he no longer loved her, she'd felt... empty. She'd told him she had no hard feelings, and she'd tricked herself almost immediately into believeing that she didn't love him either. But she knew that it wasn't really true; shock and confusion had made her react in the only way she could think of--agreeing with him. Now every time she saw him, her heart ached. She was getting better, though. At least, she hoped she was. It was hard to tell. Tears stung her eyes, and she blinked them away, allowing them to fall down and merge with the rushing river below.

Starlingsong had heard about what had happen between Wolfstar and Greenlily and he felt bad for her. They had kits and lives together. It was very disappoint when family break up suddenly like this so he though he should at least see if she was OK because for some reason all the she-cats seemed suicidal when they had tom problems. "Hey Greenlily, are you OK?" He meowed.

Greenlily quickly erased the last traces of her tears and whirled around to face the tom who'd come up behind her. "Oh, hello Starlingsong," she mewed in a falsely cheery tone. "Yes, of course I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?"

Sprucepaw made his way through the trees toward the river. A light rain was beginning to fall on SunClan as the apprentice found his way toward his mother. The apprentice may not care much for his father, but it was totally different for his mother. Sprucepaw hated his father even more because of what he had done to Greenlily. Why would you take a mate, have kits, and then decide not to love her anymore? The thought of Wolfstar made him sick. The tabby soon found his mother by the edge of the river with a tom named Starlingsong. He made his way unusually timidly toward his mother, '' Greenlily? '' he called timidly as he came closer to her. Sprucepaw was already almost the size of his mother.

Greenlily looked up at the sound of her son's voice. "Oh, hello Sprucepaw," she said, trying even harder to reign in her emotions. She wanted to present a collected front to her kits. If Wolfstar didn't love her anymore, he had no right to her kits. She wanted to show them that their mother was someone to be proud of. She'd never discourage them if they cose Wolfstar over her, she loved them too much to ever do that, but she wanted them to know how much she cared and how brave she was willing to be to protect them.

Sprucepaw wrapped himself around his mother and licked her head rhythmically. It was like she was the kit, and he was the parent. '' It's Ok, Greenlily. We don't need Wolfstar. You're to good for him anyway. '' he meowed to her. '' We never needed him in the first place... '' he muttered spitefully to himself, '' You don't have to act strong for me. I already know how strong and brave you are, you have nothing to prove to any cat. ''

Greenlily felt oddly small and frail compared to her son, who was now treating her like a kit. She forced a smile onto her face and licked his ear lovingly. "Thank you, Sprucepaw," she mewed quietly. "I'm proud to call you my son." After a moment, however, she sighed. "I don't think you should shut Wolfstar out completely though. If he tries to make things better with you, please don't shut him out just because of an old lump of fur like me." She noted how odd it felt saying that. She wasn't old, she was actually rather young, but she felt so tired, so alone. She glanced over at and awkward looking Starlingsong. "I'm sorry," she murmured to both of them. "I shouldn't be moping like this. I'm no use to anyone dwelling on the past..." She slumped her shoulders in defeat and looked down at her paws. "I'm no use to anyone..."

Wolfstar watched the two cats comfort each other. He felt bitterness burn inside him as he heard Sprucepaw talking so insolently about him. But for once, he felt he deserved it. He made up his mind. He stepped out of the undergrowth and stood before them. "Greenlily, I know this must be hard for you, but I can't have one of my best hunters moping around like a dead cat." he meowed respectfully, but with an edge on his voice.

Greenlily sprung to her paws, her fur prickling in horror. "Wolfstar!" she mewed, shocked. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there." She felt her chest beginning to constrict with the inevitable pain that came along with seeing him nowadays. "I was just taking a breather, I'm getting right back to hunting. I have some fresh-kill over there." When Wolfstar's gaze was averted to the roots of the spruce she'd indicated, Greenlily turned tail and flat out sprinted away into the trees. If she was going to recover, she needed to stay away from Wolfstar. And she was going to do her darnedest to make sure she recovered. She was, after all, no use to anyone when she was falling apart. She didn't want Sprucepaw to have to see his mother like that ever again.

'' Greenlily, how can you expect me to just forgive Wolfstar? Look at what he's done. Look at how he treats me... Look at how he treats you... '' Sprucepaw trailed off as Wolfstar came out of the undergrwoth, '' Speak of the devil... '' The tom growled quietly. The apprentice rolled his eyes at his father's words, did he think that that would make things better? By complementing the she-cat he betrayed and left in ruins on her hunting skills. Suddenly Greenlily jumped to her paws, talking about prey Sprucepaw knew she didn't have. What is she talking ab- '' Greenlily! '' he called after his mother as she ran away. Sprucepaw's fur bristled angrily, instead of racing after his mother he turned to his father.
Not knowing or caring if Greenlily or Starlingsong were watching, Sprucepaw marched up to Wolfstar so that their noses were only a mouse length away. '' Who do you think you are, coming to Greenlily like an old friend after what you've done to her! '' he meowed angrily while lashing his tail, '' Even if you are my leader, or ,unfortunetly, my father you had no right to do that! Do you like to ruin cats lives? Because it really seems like you do for some brave and noble cat who sacraficed so much for his clan! '' Sprucepaw took a deep breath to calm himself, glaring at his father with ice cold eyes. He noticed the similaries between father and son. They both had the same broad shoulders that Sprucepaw would eventually grow into. They had an identical white chests and even the way they held themselves had similarities. It made Sprucepaw sick.

Starlingsong just just stood there dumbfounded. He had no idea what to do or say. It made him feel useless being there alone with Wolfstar and Sprucepaw.

Frustration wove knots in Wolfstar's stomach. He had thought that he had made the right decision, that he had no feelings left for her, but now he knew that wasn't true. The way his fur tingled everytime her sweet scent appeared, or everytime she entered the camp. Wolfstar's stomach dropped. No.[/b] Suddenly, he was to his feet, nudging Sprucepaw so hard out of the way that the apprentice rolled backwards. He sprinted into the forest. "Greenlily!" he shouted, seeing the she-cat far ahead. With all the strength he could summon, he bounded farther and farther until she was a fox-length away. Bunching his muscles, the tom took a flying leap and landed in Greenlily's path, bringing the she-cat skidding to a stop. "Greenlily," he panted, his eyes glowing. "I-I was wrong. I've been so confused that I confused my emotions. I-I thought that I enjoyed just having you as a loyal clanmate, but it wasn't til now that a realized you are more than that to me. You always will be. Please, forgive me for being stupid and selfish. I-I truely do love you."

Starlingsong helped Sprusepaw to his paws. "I'm sure he didn't mean to do that so hard." He meowed to the apprentice. "He seemed like he was going to say sorry or talk to her at least."
