Brindlefeather stalked the water vole, watching it nibble on part of it's reedy nest. She was careful in persician so she didn't slip and fall on the runny plant. She pounced, jumping high in the air and pinpointed to land directly on the creature. She landed father than she hoped. On the edge. "HELP!!!!"

Batflight padded out of the dark caves, murmured good bye to her bats, and then headed toward the forest. She decided she would get in some hunting despite the fact that she knew that the fresh kill pile was already quite full. Suddenly a cry met her ears, '' Help! '' It was Brindlefeather and it had come from the gorge. The deputy's heart skipped a beat, the gorge was dangerous even for the most skilled of warriors. She dashed through the forest to her clan mate, the trees around her were a blur. Finally she made it to the gorge. Quickly scanning the edges, Batflight spotted the queen barley hanging by her paws. '' Hold on Brindlefeather! '' Batflight cried and dashed over to the queen, trying to grab her by the scruff. She grunted with effort as she pulled with all the might of LionClan, but her heart skipped a beat when she found her own paws slipping.

Ashcloud's paws carried her unthinkingly through SunClan territory. She didn't really register where she was going until she arrived at the Gorge. She paused to lick her paw and drag it over her ear, scanning her surroundings for any signs of prey. A little ways away she saw the SunClan deputy, Batflight, scrabbling to keep a pawhold. Instantly alarmed, Ashcloud sprinted towards her and realized that the she-cat was trying to pull Brindlefeather back up from over the edge. She thrust herself forward to help, attempting to grab Brindlefeather's tail, but her own paws slithered down the slippery ledge, and she found herself trying--and failing--to lurch back to safety.

"No!" Brindlefeather cried as she saw her clanmates slipping. "No! This can't happen. Leave me, or you'll both fall!" she wailed as the soil beneath her paws was quickly giving way. Her heart was working overtime and her muscles were straining. It was bad enough for Ashcloud to fall, but Batflight? Wolfstar would miss his deputy terribly. He would have to go through the heartache of finding her drown body lying in the water, or having to choose another deputy in front of her dead body.

'' No! I'm not leaving you Brindlefeather! I'm going to save you or die trying! '' Batflight growled through the she-cat's fur as she struggled, digging her claws into the sandy ground to help her get a paw hold. The deputy's heart dropped as she saw Ashcloud begin falling too. If Ashcloud fell too there was no way Batflight could save both of them, she wasn't even sure if she could save one of them! Fear lay over her heart like a thick frost over grass; I'm going to save you or die trying. Her amber eyes glowed with determination. She was going to stay true to her words. Every muscle in her body screamed for her to let go but Batflight's brain ignored their pleas as she pulled and pulled. She could no longer ignore the fact that her paws just kept slipping closer and closer to the edge.

Ashcloud scrambled for a better pawhold, but found herself sliding fast in the wrong direction. Brindlefeather and Batflight were both slipping too, and her heart lept into her throat. Surely you can't be ready to take all three of us, StarClan? As if in response, the grey she-cat felt an overwhelming sense of calm evelope her like a thick layer of snow, and she began drifting into the warm embrace, her paws no longer fighting to keep her up. She barely noticed the way she was falling over the edge of the Gorge; all she knew was that her ancestors were waiting on the other side, ready to take her home.

Brindlefeather hardly noticed the change in Ashcloud. She was letting herself fall. "No! Ashclou-!!!" she was cut off as the ground beneath her paws gave way. She shut her eyes and hoped that hitting the water wouldn't hurt.

Batflight's eyes widened in shock as she began slipping even faster, surely her paw hold couldn't be so bad that it made her go faster? She looked over and realized what had happened. Ashcloud, who had been pretty much over the edge, had stopped trying to pull. Ashcloud had always been like that, willing to let what would happen happen. Batflight still wasn't sure if it was wisdom or unwillingness. Lets hope it's wisdom for our sake... Batflight thought to herself as she fell over the edge. Blurred shapes flew past the she-cat as she fell faster and faster, her spine automatically corrected itself so she was falling onto her paws even though that would be pretty useless since she was going to fall on water.
I'll hit the water and I'll swim out. Batflight thought quickly to herself but yowled in pain as her side connected to a rock jutting out the edge of the rocky wall and she heard not just one of her bones snap. Then before she knew what was happening, she hit the water. She was deep under the surface and the strong current dragged her along, buffeting the she-cat against a few stray rocks here and there. Batflight tried to swim up but it caused her to much pain. She saw a shape in the water, it was a cat. Windchaser... I'm coming... She thought to her late brother and then closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes she was on the edge of the water with a brown cat that had a white under-belly and wide amber eyes that matched her own. '' I'll race you. '' Windchaser meowed to the new StarClan warrior and then bounded high into the sky toward the stars, Batflight at his heels.

Brindlefeather fell for what seemed like forever. Pain coarsed through her on impact. She flailed her arms uselessly in darkness. She felt fur brush against her and she opened her eyes. She was lying in a lush meadow and a young tomcat was standing over her. Her mouth fell open. "Beechpaw, is it really you?" she meowed, leping up from the ground. He smiled. "Welcome to Starclan, sis." Happiness buzzed through her. Maybe Starclan wasn't so bad...

Wolfstar lead a patrol by the stream. It was him, Toxicstep, Starlingsong and Snowfur. Suddenly, the water was sloshing unnaturally. He padded to the edge and saw a shadow under the water. He grabbed it and gave it a tug. His heart plummeted. It was a cat. Ashcloud. "Starclan, no..." he whispered. The sloshing started up and two more bodies appeared. Brindlefeather and Batflight. "NO!!" he shouted angrily, dragging the bodies out of the water.

Ashcloud felt full of absolute peace. Yes, there was pain--bleeding gashes from the sharp rocks that she'd slammed into on her way down, broken bones from the impact of hitting the ice cold water that bit at her skin--but she kept her head above it, ignoring it. She felt as if she were a kit again, curled up beside her mother's flank. She imagined that she could scent her brothers, by her sides. In fact, she could smell her brother.
"Blackfire?" she purred, opening her eyes. The black tom stood on the water's edge, waiting for her. "Is it really you?"
He nodded. "It's me, Ashcloud. Come. You don't need to fight anymore, little sister. Everyone's waiting for you; Brackenstorm, mom, dad. We can finally be a family again." Ashcloud stood up and ghosted across the water to him, her sparkling paws leaving not the slightest ripple. "Are you ready, sister?" Blackfire meowed, touching his nose to hers. Ashcloud nodded, and the two of them bounded away into the sky, going home at last.

"Brindlefeather!?" Starlingsong hissed running up to her body and pressed against it. "No. No. Please don't leave me... I love you. I can't live without you." The grey tom meowed in saddness.
(OMG, I'm starting to cry. lol)

Toxicstep followed closely behind Wolfstar, feeling much smaller than usual being next to his massive form. An odd scent wafted toward her, it was coming from the water. Before she could say anything, the form of a cat could be seen in the water. And then another form. And another. The warriors stood there shocked for a moment, ''StarClan no... No! '' Wolfstar cried and then pulled the warriors out of the water. Toxicstep sat there stunned, three of her friends lay dead before her. Starlingsong stood over Brindlefeather, mourning for the loss of the dead queen. She padded over to the grieving tom, '' She hunts with StarClan now Starlingsong, no more pain will trouble her now. '' she told him, trying her best to soothe his pain even though she knew it would be no good. She padded over to Ashcloud's body and began licking her soaking fur so that her fur was smooth again, '' You were a great warrior and an even better friend, '' she whispered to her lifeless body.

Starlingsong glanced up at Toxicstep with wide, watery eyes. He nodded slowly but still cried to himself and stayed close to her body. "I'll never forget you, my love."
