The breeze off of the river felt nice as Fawnspeckle walked gently beside it. Water lapped gently at the banks as she bent over to take a quick drink. The cool water was refreshing on a warm day like today. On days like this, she could only be happy. She smiled and continued to walk.

Birdsong was padding through the trees, her lithe tawny shape drifting through the undergrowth effortlessly. It was a nice day, and she felt happy because of it. She scented another cat nearby and made in that direction. "Hello?" she mewed curiously. She wasn't familar to the scent of the specific cat, but she could tell it was a SunClan cat. "Who's there?"

The scent of a SunClan cat drifted towards her that she couldn't name and soon a voice followed. "Hello!" she mewed cheerfully the wind cooling down her warm fur. "It's Fawnspeckle." she mewed as she sat down as the cat came into view.

"Ah, right! Hi Fawnspeckle," she mewed cheerily, "It's Birdsong." She padded over to the other she-cat and dipped her head to lap at the cool water of the river. "So," she mewed, sitting up and licking one forepaw impetuously, "What're you up to?"

Fawnspeckle scented the air heavily, taking in the fresh scent of the river beside of her. "Just decided to take a walk. Enjoy the beautiful weather." she smiled at the she-cat beside her. "What about you? Are you enjoying this beautiful weather as much as I am?"

"Oh, yes," Birdsong purred, nodding. "It's such a lovely day. Far too nice to spend in camp. I came out here to do a little hunting, but all the prey seems to have decided to curl up in their dens and sleep, so now I've nothing to do."

"Too bad, but I don't blame them." replied Fawnspeckle grooming herself. "It's such a nice day to relax and lay around." she sighed curling up in a warm patch of grass in the sun. She lightly placed the tip of her tail on her nose. "Why don't you lay beside me? It feels wonderful right here!" she purred in a sweet voice.

Birdsong laughed lightly but came over and settled down beside Fawnspeckle. "You're right, it is nice right here," she purred, lowering her head onto her paws and curling her tail around herself. She then began grooming herself energetically, her tongue rasping over her shoulders with practiced ease. "So, is there anything you want to talk about?" she mewed to Fawnspeckle between licks.

Fawnspeckle purred as the warrior laid beside her. "See? What did I tell you?" she laughed lightly. "Nothing in particular. What would you like to talk about? Is there are certain tom on your mind?" she giggled a little.

Birdsong had to work not to wince. Was she that easy to read? In all honesty, she'd been taking a walk to try and get Spruceburn off her mind. "N-no," she stammered too quickly. "Well... it's not that important, really," she mewed, suddenly very interested in her paws. She knew that her voice was betraying her, layered as it was with emotion, but she didn't want to bore Fawnspeckle with her tom troubles.

Fawnspeckle suddenly looked a little worried. "Are you sure you don't want to talk about? It always feels a lot better once it's off of your chest." she turned her body to face Birdsong, as if to get comfortable for a long conversation.

Birdsong looked down into the rushing water next to them. "It's Spruceburn," she mewed after a moment, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I think I might have screwed everything up. He said that we could never be together, and I got mad and hurt, and so I said if that's the way he wanted things, I didn't care. I told him I didn't care, Fawnspeckle!" Her green eyes were on the other she-cats face now, beseeching. "But I love him! And to top it off, after that I ran away! What if I ruined any chance we had to be together?" She looked down into the river again, her heart heavy. "Sorry," she sighed sadly, "I guess I needed to vent."

Fawnspeckle smiled gently and the she-cat beside her and gently placed her tail on her shoulder. "But it feels better doesn't it." She sat up and the cool breeze made her give a little shiver. "Now, if he really loves you, I'm sure he'll understand." she tried the comfort the she-cat as best as she could.

Birdsong smiled half-heartedly at Fawnspeckle. "Thanks," she mewed quietly. "I hope you're right. I really do love Spruceburn. And it's true, telling someone else did help. Sorry for using you as a place to vent," she added sheepishly.

"It's fine." Fawnspeckle purred placing a genuine smile on her face. "I'm always here to listen whenever it is that you need to vent." she laid back down and rolled over so that she belly was in the air. The sun warmed the fur on her stomach. "This feels so good..." she murmured.
