"The Shape Shifters, Vampires, and Mental's have lived among normal men and women for years without issue; until they were discovered. Man has always been afraid of what they do not understand, you see," explains the woman as you follow her down the lush, green trail. Trees bloom above your head, and you pull the blanket tighter around your shoulders. There were no healthy trees in the capitol, no grass, no flowers, no fresh, clean breeze. Birds even sang jollily overhead. It is... beautiful.
You snap back to reality, and realize you have to jog to catch up to the woman, whose leisurely stroll was smooth but remarkably fast. You wish she would slow down. She doesn't. "But we always knew about them. And they about us," she continued, "for some of the part. We show up in many different lore, especially with the older peoples, although," she chuckled slightly, "Vampires were not their favorite; though they are quite a civil race."
You scoff nervously, "So... how did you get here? You know..." you wave your arm around, gesturing at the beautiful scenery, "to this amazing place?"
The woman seemed to tense, her eyes darkening, "We once lived on an island far away from here, but much like this one. We lived at peace with the world, all of us here now descended from that home. But the people from the Capitol, the humans, wanted our peace and our technology. And they were willing to kill for it. They took us as slaves and kept us like that ever since. However, some escaped to this island, and here we made a home. Our original leader vowed that we would never live like that again, and that we would take on any who wished to join us, not only Gifted, but humans as well." She paused at the end of the trail, and turns to you, gazing into your eyes with her deep, smooth brown ones. You do not shy away. Something was still bothering you, tickling at the back of your consciousness
"How long has this establishment been alive?" you ask flatly.
The woman crosses her arms, pursing her lips for an appropriate answer, "As long as God himself." And walks away.
You follow her silently into the camp, a little off put and confused by her answer. The tribes are at peace, and they are safe. But Capitol has its hunches, and it is only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.
You ask yourself: will peace last? Or will the apocalypse finally come?
