Cherryblossom stalked along the river's edge, her paws barely making a sound. Up ahead she could smell a water vole, and she made in it's direction without faltering in her stride. She came to the edge of a clump of cattails and peered out, pinpointing her intended prey. She rocked back and forth on her haunches, preparing to spring.
It was as the vole scurried a few mose-lengths away that she lunged, landing on it expertly and snapping it's neck with one swift bite. She twirled her tongue around her muzzle to erase the traces of her freshly-caugh prey and sniffed the air again in search of more. Not scenting anything in the immediate area, she buried the vole under a loose layer of dirt and was about to continue when she spotted a flash of silver in the river.
Cherry beamed and turned back to the flowing body of water, crouching down beside it. She waited paitently, one paw raised at the ready. The fish was drifting closer to the surface again, near the centre of the river. She shifted excitedly, but only then noticed the redlected image of another cat on the water. She looked up and stumbled back with a yowl of surprise when she realized she was crouching just across from a SunClan cat.
"Great StarClan!" she hissed, her hackles rising slightly as she assessed the tom. Then she relaxed. He was in his territory, and she was in hers. There was no need to start an unnecesary brawl. "You have to be one of the quietest SunClan cats I've ever met," she told him, a slight edge to her voice that she quickly attempted to file down. "What exactly was your intent, sneaking up on me like that?"

Starlingsong eyes glazed up and looked at the pretty mostly white Moonclan she-cat. "I'm sorry. I didn't intend on scaring you. I just wanted some peace and quiet." The grey tom sat down by the water's edge. "I'm Starlingsong." He meowed quietly.

Cherry blinked at Starlingsong, her head tilting to one side. It was hardly a customary greeting between cats from different Clans, but she decided to return it anyway. "I am Cherryblossom," she replied, sitting up straight and smoothing her ruffled fur with her tongue. All the while, she kept one eye on the SunClan tom, but he made no advance as to attack.
"So..." she said finally. "Twould not be to bold of me to ask why you sought peace and quiet, would it?"

Starlingsong shrugged. "Sunclan can be heckett sometimes so I want to get away for awhile. Its no big deal." He smiled looking up at her. "Plus, I though it would be a nice day for a swim."

"A swim?" Cherryblossom repeated in delighted surprise. "I wasn't aware any SunClan cat's knew how to swim. I thought that twas only us in MoonClan who enjoyed the river. Tis beautiful out here at night, when the moon shines down on the water... It throws gorgeous ripples everywhere, and the relfection of the stars fills you with grace and wonder and..."
Cherry trailed off, realizing that she was babbling to a complete stranger. She ducked her head in shame, mumbling a barely coherent apology. She really needed to control her mouth, or one day it would end up getting her into trouble.

Starlingsong smiled. "Its OK, I won't tell if you don't." He purred walking very gently into the calm water. he walked until it was up to his long belly fur before he went completely under the water becoming fully wet. He popped up and his long fur went over his face. It made he laugh. "So are you coming?"

Cherryblossom hesitated, glancing over either shoulder hastily to see if any of her other Clanmates were around. She'd gone hunting alone, but that didn't mean that no one else was out here. Satisfied that she was alone, she slid gracefully into the water, shivering a little as it reached her stomach before following Starlingsong's demonstration and plunging beneath the surface.
Cherry popped back up, completely drenched, to mrrow with laughter. She splashed the SunClan tom playfully before swimming off down the river to see if he'd give chase. She felt sort of foolish, like a kit again, but she found it oddly delightful. She hadn't truly let herself relax since Jetstar had made her deputy.

Starlingsong laughed when she had splashed him. He swam fast after her. He swam very well like a snake, plus he was very quiet about it. Then he came up behind her and splashed her. "See I told you this was fun." He smiled.

Cherry purred, her eyes narrowing warmly. Jetstar always spoke ill of SunClan cats, but Starlingsong seemed a descent enough cat, and she decided that she rather liked him. He didn't appear to be a total stuck-up, but he clearly wasn't completely opposed to company either.
"Of course tis fun!" she laughed, lunging forward to pull him under the water. When they both broke the surface, she grinned at him, her plastered down fur making her look like a drowned rat. She didn't particularly care.

Starlingsong laughed. His fur was nothing but a big ball of a mess. He enjoyed swimming with Cherryblossom even tho he wasn't supposed to really, but he really needed a good friend to keep his mind in the present.

It was nice to swim around with Starlingsong, relieved of the responsibilities and duties that were always on her shoulders. Cherry was able to be herself for a while, free and happy. But sadly, that had to end, and she knew it.
With a reluctant sigh she pulled herself up on the shore on the MoonClan side of the river. She didn't want to leave, but if she didn't return soon, her Clan would worry, and if she returned soaking wet more than a few questions would be asked.
"Well, twas awfully nice meeting you, Starlingsong," she purred, smiling at him, "But sadly tis now that I must make my leave of you." She shook her fur out and nodded to him politely. "May StarClan light your path."
With that, she turned and left, but it was not without a sense of weariness. With the SunClan tom she'd felt rejuvinated and alive, but now that she was alone again her muscles ached and she was tired enough to sleep for a moon. She also found that she rather missed the company.
What has come over me? she wondered. I live in a Clan with many other cats and I'm... lonely? Tis obsurd. And yet, it was entirely true.

Starlingsong sighed as he watched her leave to go to her own camp. He got out of the water on Sunclan's side and went back to his camp. He was gonna miss her. She was fun and had a friendly way about her.
