Lets Try and Fish

"Nah I think I'll leave you two love birds alone. Besides, Snowfur's kits are way to cute to not go and see again!"

[Birdsong]

Birdsong's pelt burned slightly when Featherheart had called them 'love-birds', but she purred a good-natured laugh and nodded. "All right then," she meowed. "We'll see you back at camp later." Once the other she-cat had disappeared, Birdsong turned back to Sprucepaw. "So, was there anywhere in particualr you wanted to hunt?"

[Spruceburn]

The young tom's ears burned furiously and his tabby pelt bristled as Featherheart called them ' love-birds '. '' We are not... '' Sprucepaw began hotly but trailed off as the warrior bounded away. He shrugged it off, why had Featherheart's joke gotten under his pelt like that though? He turned back to Birdsong, '' So, was there anywhere in particular you wanted to hunt? '' she asked him. '' No not really. Where ever you want to hunt is fine with me. '' Sprucepaw nodded to Birdsong, allowing her to lead the way.

[Birdsong]

"All right," Birdsong replied, whisking around and pelting away. "Keep up if you can!" she called back over her shoulder playfully. In truth, she didn't have a particular destination in mind. But she wasn't about to tell Sprucepaw that.

[Spruceburn]

Sprucepaw snorted in mock disbelief as he dashed after Birdsong, '' Keep up if I can? I could say the same to you! '' The young tom sprinted harder, now the two cats were neck and neck. He winked at Birdsong and began sprinting even harder, getting a few mouse-lengths a head of the warrior. '' Ha! '' he called over his shoulder to her.

[Birdsong]

Birdsong let out a breathless mrrow of laughter. "You can't beat me!" she yowled, hard on his heels. By lengthening her bounds she managed to catch up to him, and then pelted right past him. She was so preoccupied by their race that she hadn't noticed where they were heading, but when she looked forward she realized that they were coming up on the Gorge--coming up on it fast. "Slow down!" she shrieked to Sprucepaw, her claws scrabbling to find purchase on the sandy ground.

[Spruceburn]

'' Oh yeah? '' Sprucepaw muttered, making himself go even faster. He had to hand it to her, Birdsong was more then just fast. Even though he was sprinting as hard as he could, the warrior was still ahead of him. Determined to not be outdone, Sprucepaw closed his eyes tight and sprinted as hard as possible. '' Slow down! '' Birdsong suddenly called to him, '' What? '' he meowed and then suddenly gasped in horror as he saw how close the gorge was, and realzied how fast he was running toward it. The young tom came to a sudden halt, making him trip over his own paws and he slid over the sandy ground. He extended his claw, willing them to slow him down.

Finally he came to a stop less than a tail-length from the gorge. His fur stuck up at odd angles and his eyes were wide as he looked at how close he had come to falling over the gorge to what would likely be his death. '' Oh... wow... '' was all Sprucepaw muttered, his heart beating so fast he swore it was going to rip out of his chest. '' Birdsong? '' he looked around frantically, she hadn't fallen over had she? He let out a sigh of relief as he spotted the warrior behind him, '' You okay? '' he called to her.

[Birdsong]

When Birdsong finally skidded to a stop, her pads were raw and her claws felt like they'd been ripped out. Aside from that and her furiously pounding heart, she was fine. She looked at Sprucepaw with wide eyes. "I-I th-think I'm okay," she stammered. "Are you okay?" He didn't look hurt, but she wanted to be sure.

[Spruceburn]

Sprucepaw snorted as he got to his paws, puffing out his chest, '' It'll take a little more then that to hurt me! '' he meowed and then padded over to Birdsong, '' Let me see your pads, '' his pads burned too, but he wasn't going to tell Birdsong that, '' you probably tore out one of your claws... '' he meowed, his greens eyes burning with concern.

[Birdsong]

Birdsong glanced down at her paws and frowned. If hers were bad, then no doubt Sprucepaw's were too. "Let me check yours," she mewed quietly, lowering her head to gently turn one of his paws over. The pad was raw and red, but it wasn't as bad as it could've been, save for a cut that was deep and painful looking. She gently touched her nose to the hot surface of his pad, and then began rasping her tongue over it in soothing strokes. The last thing she wanted was for anything bad to happen to Sprucepaw because she'd been stupid, whether it was an infected pad or a broken neck. How stupid could she be, racing him straight towards the Gorge? If she wasn't more careful, she was liable to get one of them--or both of them--killed. She pushed the thoughts back and refocused her attention on getting Sprucepaw's pad clean, licking it rhythmically.

[Spruceburn]

'' They aren't that bad... '' Sprucepaw muttered but didn't resist as Birdsong reached down and turned his paw over, he saw how bad it was, especialy the long cut on his pad. It stung a bit when the warrior started licking it but then it felt good after a few licks. '' That feels... awsome... '' he muttered softly then rested his muzzle on Birdsong's head, her fur was soft and smelled of sweet flowers, '' Thanks Birdsong. '' he meowed quietly.

[Birdsong]

Birdsong purred softly to acknowledge Spurcepaw's thanks. "I think that's about as clean as I can get it," she meowed, looking his pad over. As she straightened up, Birdsong pressed her muzzled to his. "Sorry about all of this," she murmured, casting one last glance at the edge they'd almost tumbled over. "We should head back to camp. Then Doveheart can do something about that cut."

[Spruceburn]

Sprucepaw flicked his ears, '' There's nothing to be sorry about, we were just playing around. '' he told her and then began leading the way back to camp, '' Yeah, Doveheart should look at your pads too. ''
