Rosepaw sat high in a tree, gazing down at the forest floor, near the gorge. Her eyes were filled with sadness and regret as she remembered falling. She rememberbed being 'asleep' and overheaing them talk about what to do with her, because it was obvious she couldn't be a warrior. She remembered wnting to simply leave the clan rather than be a burden and fail her duties as a medicine cat. She remembered. . . And then she didn't. There was always her past before the clan that she could not remember. Most memories haunted her, but these were the ones she often wante to find, but evaded her. The apprentice hissed in frusteration.

Goldenblaze was talking a walk around in the area near the gorge. He caught the scent of Rosepaw, and decided to see what she was up to. He heard her let out a hiss, and saw her in a tree. He worried about her being in high places...
"Rosepaw..." he called up to her, "What are you doing up there?" He scaled the tree, and sat down next to his friend.

The apprentice was surprised to find Goldenpa- blaze scaling up the tree to meet her. Usually this place was free of her clanmates other than when Doveheart wanted to find her, Wolfstar wanted to think, and a few hunting patrols. So what was her friend doing around? Not that she minded his company. She needed to get her mind off of other things anyways. "Thinking. . ." she admitted. There was a small breeze that gently russled leaves around them. It was slightly stronger, being so high up. If she wasn't a cripple though, Rosepaw would probably be even higher up. Just because her paw was ireverably wounded didn't mean she couldn't enjoy her favorite passtime when she was a warrior apprentice.

"You're always thinking about something," he mewed. He closed his eyes as the breeze blew the leaves below, and ruffled is pelt a little. He looked to Rosepaw, trying to read her expression. "Anything you wanna talk about?" he asked her.

Rosepaw sighed, looking away from her friend. He was right, she always was thinking about something. But was it somethign she wanted to talk about? Not really. . . But maybe Goldenblaze would understand. "I would bea warrior by now if I hadn't fallen. I would be able o go on hunting patrols again, fight for the clan, been a normal cat! Being a medicine cat doesn't feelright all the tme. . . And- I miss feeling free." she suddenly blurted, surprising erself. Rosepaw still din't look at him, and instead looked out twards the forest, remembering running through the trees as a young apprentice.

Goldenblaze nodded as Rosepaw spoke. Although he was never in the situation she's in, he was still her close friend, and understood better than most about how she felt.
"I'm no medicine cat," he began, "But, don't you think StarClan chose this path for you for a reason? Don't you think they want you to be happy, even if you can't be the Warrior you've always wanted to be? Even if you can't fight as well as the next cat, or hunt properly, you still have amazing skills, and deserve to be happy. I guess it isn't fair, though..."
He didn't want to upset her anymore, so he said nothing else. Instead he pressed his pelt lightly against her side to comfort her.

Although his presence reasured her, the she-cat;s pelt stilled bristled slightly with agitation. She hadn't tolf him yet. . . She hadn't told anyone, although Doveheart already knew. StarClan hadn't chosen this path for her. "No one chose this path for me Goldenblaze. . . StarClan hadn't made it my fate to fall." she growled in frusteration at herself. "It was my own stupidity that has gotten me here." 'I took away my own freedom without knowing it.' She sobbed inwardly, her anger fading into sadness. But that didn't show on her face. The apprentice had learned to keep her sorrow hidden from others. Her mentor urged her to try and move forward as much as she could, even though it would haunt her forever. So that's what she tried to do, although she did have her moments to simply mope. One of which Goldenblaze had interupted. Rosepaw felt sorry for the tom too. He was her friend and comforted her when it was needed, but she didn't do anything in return.

Goldenblaze looked at the medicine cat apprentice.
StarClan didn't choose her path...?
The words confused him, but that didn't matter. He could still feel her upset, and wanted to help her feel better. Soothing words may feel good at first, but they just blanket over sadness and anger.
"It doesn't really matter WHAT got you here, does it?" he said quietly, "You can't change the past, and you shouldn't look back in regret...just keep moving forward, and you won't have to. Be the best medicine cat you can be...for me, and for the clan."
He purred at her softly, to sooth her, "If I'm going to be a warrior for the both of us, StarClan know I'm going to need you to fix me up from time to time,"

Rosepaw laughed slightly, looking at her best friend finally. "I should push you, but then i would have to make sure you're alright." she teased back. Their pelts brushed eachother in a friendly manor, the sense of someone she knew soothing the medicine cat apprentice. "I'll be a great medicine cat. For you, and for the clan. I promise." she whispered. Her mind went back to when he promiseed her almost the same thing, to when he came in the medicine den complaining about a limp out a limb out of place, and simply talking. Golden paw was really her best friend. The thought made her purr slightly.

"Push me off? I'll cry, and you'll feel horrible," he said, as laughter escaped from his throat.
He nudged her softly, "Hey...you know...I'm glad to have a friend like you. Someone I can talk to about anything...a very best friend."
Rosepaw meant so much to the young tom, and he truly meant what he said about her.

"Same. . . Thanks for being there for me even though I whine as much as you do when you pull a limb out of place." she purred, nudging him gently back. This was how life was meant to be in Rosepaw's eyes. Able to feel free, and simply talk with your best friend. No scary omens from StarClan, no hidden past, no limp. Nothing to keep them apart. But being a medicine cat did that. She had to stay in camp healing the wounded while Goldenblaze went out hunting with his other friends. Their paths were seperate. Rosepaw would probably watch him start his own family and go off into battle, his time being consumed by other, more important things so that their time together would shrink to nothing. And the apprentice would stay in camp, going about her own duties of collecting herbs and cobwebs. She would never be able to do anything else really.

Being able to talk to Rosepaw without limitations, without restraining himself, made Goldenblaze feel great. He could never talk so openly about things with any other cat as he he could with her. But one thought scared him. As long as she was a medicine cat, and he was a warrior, they would be spending less and less time together, as their responsibilities got greater. The times alone with her were the times he treasured most, and he never wanted to let it go. But he might have to. He wanted to have a mate, and before the incident, he was so sure Rosepaw would be that mate. But...things change, and fate changed with it. She could never be his mate, never bear his kits, but, one thing never changed. His feelings for his best friend.
"We're so sappy and dramatic sometimes," he purred, "No wonder we're best friends. And I only sprained my leg once, thank you!" he nudged her again.

"But you whined like you fractured it!" she laughed. Rosepaw let her mind wonder slightly, and it ended up thinking about Gladepaw. It was obvious that she had interest in Goldenblaze, and he returned much of it. Her heart twisted slightly, knowing that they would probably be mates. But she still silently wished them luck together, as long as her best friend was happy. That's what mattered most. The apprentice was willing to grow seperate from the warrior and watch him love another she-cat like he would never love her, and watch her bare his kits, most likely helping. She would see him gaze lovingly at the kits that weren't her own, and walk away without thanks. As long as Goldenblaze was happy. She purred slightly.

(;3; I think I died a little inside...and I'm crying xD)
"What? When did I whine?" he objected, "I came in, saying it hurt, and asked you guys to fix it. Then I was too doped up on that poppy seed to feel it put back!" he purred.
He closed his eyes, feeling Rosepaw's side against his. She was warm. He focused on her breathing, and her voice when she spoke. It was at times like this when he wish she wasn't going to be a medicine cat...
Sometimes he wished Rosepaw wasn't hurt so that they could just run from their responsibilities, that they could be free...and happy.

((OOC: i knu XD i cried slightly writing it))
"Suuurrre. That's what they all say." she laughed, a purr deep in her throat as she lightly cuffed his ear. "Just remember not to be stupid. I know it's hard not to be for a tom that has been newly promoted as a warrior, but still." 'You don't know how much I wish I could change fate Goldenblaze. If I could take back time I would. But since I can't, just be happy. Please. Be a warrior for both of us, and I'll be a Medicine cat for both of us. And I'll try not to hate Gladepaw for being able to keep you when I can't.' Despite the urge to sob, the apprentice broke away from Goldenblaze, and leaped down to the next limb, looking up at her best friend expectantly. "I need to go collect some herbs so Doveheart doesn't rip my whiskers out! Wanna help?" she said laughingly despite her inner feelings. Rosepaw could always smile with him around.
