((I just cried again XD)
Goldenblaze watched as Rosepaw leap down to the branch below, worry gripping him. He pushed it away, he always fretted over Rosepaw, but it was his feelings for her that made him do it. He grinned in spite of himself, saying, "Why would I pass up the chance to see you get your whiskers torn off by Doveheart? Oh, of course I'll help you, mouse brain!"
She was going to be a great medicine cat, he knew it. She wouldn't be his mate, she wouldn't have his kits...she probably didn't even feel the same way as him, but she'd still be the most important cat in his life.

"Knowing you, you would be betting on Doveheart." she laughed, ignoring his worried expression. Goldenblaze always worried about others getting hurt, even as a kit. Rosepaw slowly made her way down the tree, leeping from limb to limb. Before the injury, she would have been on the forest floor within a split second. But the injury had changed everything. Once her friend was on the forest floor too, she started walking, heading in the direction of a nice supply of comfrey.

"How much are we getting?" he asked, keeping in pace with her.
Goldenblaze remembered when they were kits, and they used to have races around the camp. They were always matched, partly b/c Rosepaw had gone easy one him, and partly b/c they had always promised...to stay together...
A wave of sadness washed over Goldenblaze as he walked with Rosepaw over the forest floor.

Rosepaw tried her best to stay optimistic as they walked. She remembered running through this part of the forest with her mentor and Golden paw not long after they had been made apprentices. The thought saddened her, but she tried to remember the feeling instead. Of running blissfully with her friend. It was magnificent. But for now, she would settle with simply walking. "Not to much, since there is still some in the store. But some is getting old, and needs replacing. After we get comfrey, we need an entire new stack of burdock root."

He felt at peace when walking with Rosepaw. A feeling he wished to keep...
"What do comfrey and burdock roots do?" he asked, deciding to see her put her knowledge to the test.

"Burdock roots help draw out infection. Comfrey is used for bones and healing them when broken." she said without hesitation, straight from memory. Doveheart had taught her apprentice well, that was for sure. It was an easy test for her. "Have any harder questions?" she purred teasingly.

Goldenblaze smiled when she answered. "I guess not," he mewed. He padded ahead, swishing his tail in her face.

"Don't make a poor cripple attack you!" she laughed, taking a step back to get his furry tail out of her face. They finally came up to the burdock plant, and Rosepaw started gently digging for the roots, nipng them t break off when she found a good one. She made a nea pile, until there wasough to replae the store of it in camp. "Help me carry this. The comfrey is closer to camp, so we'll pick it upon the way home." she told him, picking up half the stack in her jaw. They walked a few cat lengths when the pungent odor of the herb hit Rosepaw like falling snow. Without beig ae to talk, the apprentice's mind wondered. t went fom her clan, toher clan mates. . . One in particular. Goldenblaze was always there for her, even after the accident. But that was going to be hard for him now. Warriors duties will keep him away more and more. Then he would start his own family. The she-cat thoug he was oblivious to how much that thought chipped away a her heart. He lways said although he wasn't ready yet, tha he wanted kits and a mate. Rosepaw couldn't help with either of those. All she could do was stand by and watch as the kits that should have been hers grow up. She would simply watch, and Goldenblaze would probably remain oblivious.

((WHY ARE THEY SO OBLIVIOUS TO EACH OTHER?!?! XD))
Goldenblaze picked up the stack Rosepaw left and followed her. He wondered if the she-cat knew about his feelings for her. She wasn't stupid, and she was more aware of others feelings than he was. He wished he could tell her, but that would cause so many problems. He wasn't sure if their friendship would be strained, and even if it wasn't, they would always be each others biggest "What if" ...
Sure, he also had feelings for Gladepaw, but, he always had loved Rosepaw. And, as wrong as it was, he wished for Rosepaw to be his mate, for Rosepaw to be mother of his kits... At the same time, he was relieved, but not happy, that he wouldn't have to choose between the two...still, as much as he wanted kits and a mate...he would gladly stay alone, no mate, to stay with Rosepaw...

The silence became deafening. The thoughts that swam in their head was to much for Rosepaw not to voice anymore. They neared the comfrey, and once her mouth was free, the apprentice couldn't hold back her words. She needed to know his feelings and what he thought. "I know you like Gladepaw. . . A lot. And I don't want to get in the way of that, especially because. . ." she had to pause a moment to think. "Of our circumstances. I know you want kits and a mate at some point. But what i want you to know is that if I could change fate so that it was possible, I would want to be those things. . . You've always been there for me, and I want to keep it that way. But it's probably not going to happen. Our paths are seperate. And if you really want a mate and kits, Gladepaw is your best choice once you're both older. . ." she blurted. Suddenly, her voice dropped to a small, embarassed whisper. "Just so you know. . ." her ears were hot with embarassment now, but she was glad she had finally spoken.

Goldenblaze was at a loss for words.
"You...I..."
It was as if she read his mind and told him exactly what he wanted to hear. She wanted to be his mate, have his kits, be in Gladepaw's place... His heart soared, but was quickly brought back down. She's still medicine cat...
"Are you trying to say...what I think you are, Rosepaw...?" he finally stuttered.

She looked away, as if facinated with a blade of grass. That was a good question. What had she been trying to say? If only it was so easy to answer. It wasn't, but she would have to try. When she spoke, her voice was soft, barely above a whisper. "I'm trying to say that even though I'm not allowed to, I love you. . . But I'm willing to watch you fullfill your want of having kits, even if it means being with Gladepaw. She's a good cat. . . And you'll be happy with her." As the words choked out of her throat, her heart seemed to twist and tear itself slilghtly, although the pain didn't register on her face. This was the pain you kept locked inside, never to let anyone see. Her face was saddened though, and serious. She meant every word that she has said.

I love you...
The three most beautiful words he had ever heard. And they came from Rosepaw.
"You...love me," It wasn't really a question. More like a confirmation. It was the thing he'd always been afraid to say, yet always wanted to.
Goldenblaze searched Rosepaw's face as she said she'd be okay with letting him mate with Gladepaw. He read a bit of sadness, but not much else. She was always so difficult to read.
"Rose...paw..." he whispered, "I like Gladepaw, that's true, but...it's you, it's always been, you...StarClan know it to be true, and if I'm lying may they strike me now..."
He wondered how safe it was, making a statement like that; StarClan have to be watching them...they always are.
What will they do to us? To Rosepaw? Worry gripped him and he looked away, not wanting to meet her eyes.

She glanced up at him, when he returned the feelings. It actually surprised her. And as he said, nothing struck him down. Goldenblaze wasn't lying. The fact made her want to purr and cry at the same time. But another thought saddened her even greater. "StarClan will not allow it though. . . I may not have chosen this path, but it's mine now. And I thought you always wanted kits." At her last words, she mustered enough courage to look at him. Rosepaw remembered when they were first starting as apprentices, so excited to finally be a true member of the clan. They felt like they had the power of LionClan together, and could not be striked down. That nothing could severe their friendship, and together they would defend the clan from anything that came their way. Neither really wanted to be leader, but they wanted to be the best they could be. And now one was still on that path. But the other's fate changed durastically, altering maybe the fate of the clan itse;f.

"It's not fair!" Goldenblaze snapped angrily, "What did we ever do to deserve this pain?! Is this what my life is supposed to be? Separated from you because of one accident? Why can't medicine cats have mates and kits anyway? Why does StarClan have to torture me so?"
He knew he was just being irrational, and blaming it on StarClan wouldn't help, but he didn't care. He was upset, and just found out the cat he loved returned his feelings. And there wasn't a thing either could do...
